Product Description
At the age of 8, Hazel was separated her family in the woods due to a storm that almost certainly left them dead. She wandered the forest for days and found herself on death's doorstep when she was struck on the head by a giant acorn. In front of her were nuts as far as the eye could see. Oak, Walnut, Chestnut, Hazelnut, and even Ginkgo trees presented her with the sustenance to survive. From then on, she felt connected to her grove and treated the trees in it as family. She was especially connected to her giant acorn, which she named Tannin Ted. As she grew older, she kept connected to the outside world by joining hunters and travelers at their camps and bringing huge nut offerings to share (Earning her the name "Crazy Hazel"). In return they would share their foods and give her news about the outside world. At one such potluck, a hunter noticed that her giant acorn, which had sprouted over the years, would remain slightly pointed east, no matter where it was held. Believing that Tannin Ted was trying to tell her something, she followed his sprout like a compass, leaving the grove under the protection of her arch rivals, the squirrels.
