Product Description
Prior to the adoption of wood crossties or sleepers, most railroads fastened their rails to stone blocks. In most cases the rail was sat in a cast iron chair which was spiked or screwed into the stone. These 3D printed stone blocks have chairs printed in and are made to fit standard code 70 rails. Code 55 rails will also fit, but the flanges of some wheels may interfere with the rail chairs. Code 83 may fit (but it will be tight fit).
The stones are dimensioned roughly to a scale 16 x 16 inch size, same as used on several early rail lines. Each print contains enough stones for about 15 inches of track, If the stones are spaced out to a scale 3 feet (10.5mm) center to center (more or less the standard in 1830). Some lines spaced stones even further apart. The stones are all slightly out of square as was the case with the real stones, which were only ever dressed (smoothed flat) on top. The rail is simply inserted into the chairs, and the chairs may be fixed to the baseboard. You will need the correct tools for setting the gauge, etc.
