Product Description
The steam torpedo boat USS Spuyten Duyvil was laid down as Stromboli in 1864, New Haven, Connecticut. She was completed in an astonishing 3 months and fired her first torpedoes in November of that year. During the American Civil War the ship operated mainly on the James River, supporting the Union Squadron and using her spar torpedoes to clear obstructions in the waterway. Placed in reserve in 1866, the ship was used for experimental work but her final fate is unknown. She disappeared from the Navy list in 1880.
