Product Description
The Passaic class monitors were the direct successors to Ericsson's first USS Monitor, being larger than the latter and having the conning position moved to the top of the turret. Armament was changed due to the disappointing performance of the 11in gun, a crash production of the new 15in Dahlgren smoothbore was ordered; in the end the ships of the class had to be equipped with one new 15in smoothbore and one old 11in rifle in a similar 2-gun turret to that of the original Monitor.
CSS Richmond was a Confederate ironclad ram, built in early-mid 1862 in Gosport (today Norfolk) Navy Yard. She saw action only in mid-1864, participating in several battles before being scuttled by the Confederates before the evacuation of the capital in April 1865.
