Here is an HO scale model of the Marietta & Cincinatti Railroad's first locomotive, the 2-2-0 "Thomas James". This locomotive was constructed in the 1830s for the Boston & Worcester, and worked in the 1850s hauling construction trains for the building of the M&C RR. This model is scaled from the well known Dageurreotype taken in 1851 of the locomotive and crew. Some of these early four wheel engines continued working into the 1870s, and many more were still languishing on scrap sidings of various roads into the 1880s, making this model suitable for a wide range of eras. The stack and cab are fitted seperately in case you'd like to keep the loco cabless to model an early era, or fit a stack of your choosing.
- This model will take standard 33" inch HO scale wheels on standard pinpoint NMRA axles (aprox 26mm length) for the leading wheels.
- The driving wheels are 54" spoked trailing wheels can be found online from American Scale Models.
Important: when this model is printed in a material other than Versatile Plastic, it may be necessary to trim or file the axle openings in order to fit the axles without snapping the plastic. The greater flexibility of Versatile Plastic means a smaller opening is used for better securing the axle in place, however with less flexible options inserting the axles may cause the plastic to break. If the axles will not "snap" in easily, the openings for them will have to be enlarged.
The photos show a test print of the model, some details and dimension have been changed in the current iteration for print.
Details like bell, sandpipes, driver, etc. must be sourced seperately and are not included in the print. Sand dome is "drilled" to accept wire for sandpipes. The pictured tender can be found in my other items. "The General" is shown behind "Thomas James" for comparison of size, and is obviously not included in the print.
