Product Description
Southern Railway engineer OVS Bulleid’s ‘Leader’ Class was one of Britain’s most remarkable, if ill-fated, steam locomotive designs. Aiming to merge the advantages of diesels with steam technology, this unusual engine suffered from numerous teething troubles and was scrapped in 1951. This scratch aid provides the internal end cabs and central ashpan/reverser for Bulleid’s ‘Leader’ in N Gauge. The model is a revised and super-detailed upgrade of a previous version, with TWO separate ways it can be built. This specific BFB part is intended for the chassis modification version, creating scale wheels (unlike the ‘simple’ version with its own parts that does not have any chassis modifications). Further details of both versions can be found under the N Gauge Leader body and a video of the BFB version construction is below.
THE PARTS FOR THESE TWO VERSIONS ARE NOT INTERCHANGABLE. Please therefore order accordingly – required to complete the BFB model are:
• N Gauge Bulleid Leader Body (the same for both versions)
• N Gauge Leader Bogies BFB Version
• N Gauge Leader Wheel Pack BFB Version
• Tomytec TM-TR02 Powered Motorized Chassis N scale (x2)
• Peco 31012 Collett Locomotive Tyre 10.8mm N Gauge (x2 sets ie 12 tyres eg via https://www.petersspares.com/p/peco-31012-collett-locomotive-tyre-108mm-pk6-n-gauge)
• Thin brass sheet (for pickups – design details in the construction video)
• 0.5mm styrene strip (to retain wheels and for shims where necessary)
• Wire (flexible electrical pickup between bogies and modelling wire for brake/heat pipes and brake gear)
• Livery-appropriate decals eg Railtec BR early crest non-GWR complete steam loco https://www.railtec-models.com/showitem.php?id=2768 (Ask for two smokebox numberplates when selecting your desired running number)
• Weight
• Couplings
• Coal
Additional cab details, if wanted, can be made with styrene strip and wire – the reverser levers (bases provided) and smokebox dart.
