Product Description
This unusual double-ended engine is an LNER Y10 Class originally intended for the iconic Wisbech & Upwell Tramway. Built by Sentinel in 1930 they were, however, underpowered for the freight traffic on the Tramway and were relocated after only one year, subsequently working at Ipswich, Yarmouth, Aberdeen and Edinburgh. Both survived into BR ownership but were withdrawn by 1952.
This model originated as a jumbo-ised N Gauge engine, suitably altered to 00 operative tolerances and to fit proprietary parts (notably the wheelbase for motorising), enabling simple construction.
IMPORTANT: while most models available here have been pre-tested and known to work, this scratch-aid has not been printed/tested by myself, so while the measurements appear correct it is considered strictly experimental.
(Note: various materials are provided, however, WSF and BSF will require more preparation for smooth painting that FUD and FED.)
The following additional parts need to be sourced separately to complete (web links given as examples only):
• Tenshodo aka Hanazono motor bogie, 24.5mm wheelbase, 10.5 diameter disc wheels:https://motorbogies.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_22&products_id=240&zenid=altif4dnkrvi8rob03nulftj47
• Coupling: either wire using the ready-included hole in the bufferbeam, or if cutting away part of the cowcatcher a mounting point is also ready-included for tension lock couplings such as from the A1X Terrier - https://www.newmodellersshop.co.uk/hornby_spares_couplings.htm
Optional additional details to scratchbuild (at the builder's discretion):
• Buffers (locating holes provided)
• Boiler (omitted to give access for adding additional weight if necessary)
• Crew
