Are you a Pepper – an extremely beautiful lady? Then it’s about time to pepper up your life with a rotundone pendant… to make you feel that pepper more distinctly! Pepper is outrageously attractive, wildly romantic and untamed, she is casual and energetic, full of enthusiasm, spunk and ‘joie de vivre’; and of course she is the awesomely cool girlfriend of Salt.
(–)-Rotundone (C15H22O), the ‘pepper compound’, was originally discovered in 1967 in the tubers of the grassy weed Cyperus rotundus L. (nut grass, 920 ppb); hence the name. It is a transparent and radiant dry peppery smelling sesquiterpene with an extremely low recognition threshold value. Rotundone is the principal odorant of black (1200 ppb) and white pepper (2025 ppb), but occurs in a wide variety of other essential oils including marjoram (208 ppb), rosemary (86 ppb), geranium (26 ppb), thyme (5 ppb), basil (4 ppb), and oregano (1 ppb), as well as in Shiraz grapes and red wine. It has also been long known as a constituent of patchouli oil, and is also very important for the scent of agarwood (oud). Rotundone can be easily recognized in ‘Miu Miu’ (Miu Miu, 2015) by Daniela Andrier and ‘Blackpepper’ (Comme des Garçons, 2016) by Antoine Maisondieu.
The dimensions of the (–)-rotundone pendant are ca. 3.1 cm × 2.9 cm × 1.9 cm, and the hole for the necklace (not included) has a diameter of ca. 3 mm.
