Product Description
CSS Georgia was an ironclad built in Savannah, Georgia, in 1862. It was one of the ships of this type to be built the fastest. The engines revealead themselves to be very underpowered to propel the ship against the current, so the Georgia was moored as a floating battery and her engines used to work the pumps as the hull had a number of leaks. When the city of Savannah fell in 1864, Georgia was scuttled. To this day no images of the ship survive, only three engravings which do not depict it 100% accurately. So we don't know for sure what the real aspect of the Georgia was.
CSS Louisiana was also built in 1862 and participated in the battle of Forts Jackson and St. Philip. The vessel was quite unique in which she had both paddle wheels, one abaft the other in the middle of the casemate, and two screws, which were not used for propulsion but to aid in steering.  Her engines were taken from a steamer, but this caused delays instead of speeding up the construction. Having, as already said, participated in one of the major actions in the American Civil War, Louisiana was subsequently scuttled to prevent capture.
