Product Description
The Yokosuka D4Y Suisei (彗星, Suisei, "Comet"), Allied call name "Judy" was employed as the IJN carrier dive bomber from March of 1943 through the end of the war, replcing the earlier D3A "Val" Two pre-production models were also used as a recon aircraft during the Midway battle. The D4Y2 was faster than the F4F, but suffered badly against the F6F Hellcat, as it had neither armor or self sealing fuel tanks. With it;s good speed and 900 mile range, it also made a good reconaissance aircraft. Toward the end they were used as Kamikazes, where they proved to be frightenly effective, as one almost sunk the USS Franklin CV-13 with two bombs and another did bomb and sink USS Princeton.
