In 1940 the Germans captured the old Netherlands Coastal Defence Cruiser "Gelderland". Until 1944 the Ship served under the new name "Niobe" as a trainig vessel for german sailors. Than it was converted as a floating anit aircraft battery with 8 x 10,5 cm AA Guns, 4 x 40mm Bofors and 2 Quad 2mm AA Guns. Also a "Würzburg" Radar was installed. The Niobe was used as a convoi escort in the baltic sea and was sunk by a heavy airstrike from soviet horizontal-, dive- and torpedobombers. WSF NOT PRINTABLE
Im Jahre 1940 eroberten die Deutschen das alter Holländische Küstenpanzerschiff "Gelderland". Es diente anschliessend bis 1944 als Ausbildungsschiff für Matrosen unter dem neuen Namen "Niobe". Die Niobe wurde dann zu einer schwimmenden Flakbatterie umgebaut. Als Bewaffnung wurden 8 x 10,5 cm Flak, sowie 4 x 40mm Bofors und 2 x 2cm Vierlings-Maschinenkanonen installiert. Das Schiff erhielt ebenfalls ein "Würzburg"-Radargerät. Die Niobe wurde als Konvoi-Begleitschiff in der Ostsee eingesetzt und später von den Sovjets durch einen massiven Luftangriff, bestehend aus Horizontalbombern, Stukas und Torpedobombern, versenkt.
