There were plans in the 70s to equip the CGN-9 Long Beach with the Aegis System, but such plans were eventually scrapped due to funding constraints. The move makes sense: and the cost effectiveness of the newly built Ticoderoga class cruisers far exceeded upgrading the existing nuclear cruisers, and plentiful of oversea bases ensures that the need of the nuclear navy become an non-issue. That said, it is still certainly interesting to imagine what would have became of the Long Beach if it was upgraded.
The model is based on an old aritistic impression of the Aegis equiped Long Beach (seen in wikipedia) which in turn was based on an rumored design of the planned Aegis upgrade of the CGN Virginia. I was thinking about making a VLS-equiped version but on second thought, that pretty impossible for a ship that's 40+ years old by the time when VLS is even developed...
