Cassini's Prime mission in a 5 000 000 km cube,
On October 15, 1997, the Cassini–Huygens spacecraft was launched on an almost 7-year journey to the Saturn system. On its way, the spacecraft passed Venus, Earth, and Jupiter — arriving at the Saturn system in 2004.
This hanging sculpture traces the "Prime mission" trajectory of the Cassini probe between 2004- 2008, as it began the first in-depth, up-close study of Saturn and its system of rings and moons.
The 1.2mm diameter "ball of yarn" sculpture is wrapped in a reference cube that denotes dimensions of 5 000 000 km and puts the scale of the orbits i perspective.
