Product Description
Commonly known as "slime mold," Dictyostelium is a genus of social amoebae that live in the soil feed on bacteria. They have a relatively short life cycle characterized by four different stages: vegetative, aggregation, migration, and culmination. This pendant represents the aggregation stage when starving amoebae emit cAMP, a signaling molecule that causes individual amoeboid Dictyostelium to move and aggregate at a central location (shown in the center of this pendant). The amoebae adhere to each other through the production of sticky glycoprotein molecules on their surface. The paths of their aggregation are depicted in this unique pendant.

The Dictyostelium pendant is approximately 3.1 cm in diameter.

If you would like to purchase a chain along with this pendant, please click on the "ADD A CHAIN" button below the material dropdown. The bail loop for attaching a chain has an internal diameter of 5.1 mm in the longest dimension and 3.5 mm in the shortest.
