Equine Rhinitis A Virus

Equine Rhinitis A Virus (ERAV) was originally classified as a part of the Rhinovirus genus and was previously known as equine rhinovirus 1. The first recognized serotype was reclassified in the genus Aphthovirus and is now called Equine Rhinitis A Virus. ERAV may cause mild to severe respiratory tract disease in horses, affecting both the upper and lower airways. It may be a contributing or exacerbating factor of inflammatory airway disease (IAD) and recurrent airway obstruction (RAO or heaves).
