Fan Gearbox - "Super" floor stand fan

For "Super" floor "Stand Fan", model 18MPS

This gearbox replaces the factory unit which may crack when the oscillating function is engaged and the fan cage is hit. The housing and screw mounts have been beefed up to better withstand impacts to the unit.

This is a fairly easy replacement for someone with basic mechanical knowledge. Tools required: Phillips screwdriver, grease (compatible with plastic).

Instructions:

1. Remove the screw inside the oscillating selection knob on top of the unit.
2. Remove the front fan cage.
3. Remove the fan nut - note this is a reverse thread, turn it clockwise to undo it.
4. Remove the rear fan cage nut and cage.
5. Unclip the main plastic motor housing and remove. The clips are accessible from the front of the unit.
6. Unscrew and remove the gearbox from the rear of the motor mount. Be careful when you remove the oscillation selection gear and shaft, the gear has two ball bearings which are held in place with springs and the bearings and springs can pop out very easily.
7. Remove the plastic bushing from the main boss on the gearbox.
8. Insert the bushing in the new housing.
9. Install the selection gear and shaft in the new housing.
10. Apply grease to the gears and wear surfaces.
11. Re-assemble.
