Product Description
2 pair of live spring trucks used mostly under freight cars 1840-60. This is a stretched version of the HOT02 truck, but with a 54" wheelbase, made for NEM standard large spoked wheels. Modeled after a probable B&O example, these were also common under European cars imported from the U.S. or patterned on American designs, such as those of the Wurttemburg Railways. Requires 33"-36" wheelsets with 24-25 mm (.980"-1.005") length axles. Open 8-spoked wheels are the closest to prototype, such as Brawa #2182. Mounting hole diameter is 0.10"/2.5mm, with 0.20"/5mm diameter recess to accomodate a panhead screw. Clean with alcohol before painting, acrylics preferred. See also HOT02s, a 46" wheelbase truck for 28"-33" wheels.
Wicking in some thin CA glue will strengthen parts.
Because of their fine detail, Smoothest or Smooth Fine Detail is the preferred material, others will show varying degrees of surface roughness or indistict, overly smooth detail. Most other materials may not even print because of the thin sections.
Part number HOT03s, panamintmodels, reference JH White American Freight Car, fig. 2.15 and drawings of Wurttemburg cars by Thomas Scherer.
