Stand: Pen Lux

I present my simple desk stand, designed to hold Stepanid's Pen Lux; a recently completed Kickstarter campaign. The pen did not come with any sort of protection for the writing tip, so I had a go at using 3D printing to come up with a solution.

This model is suitable for printing in plastic, steel and the cast metals: brass, bronze, silver, etc. The heavier the base, the better it will do it's job, so steel and the cast metals would be an advantage. However the cost of the steel or cast metals is higher than the cost of the pen, so they may not be sensible choices, everything considered.

The base is hollow underneath, so material can be added to give extra weight to the stand. Due to variations in the machining process of the pens themselves, I cannot guarantee that the fit of the pen into this stand will be perfect. However the Version that has been printed seems to work fine. I also have a pen cap model for the Pen Lux in my Shapeways shop, which will allow the pen to become safely portable. It includes a pocket clip. (The model shown in the photos has been printed in the Shapeways PLA material, rather than the Strong and Flexible plastic. The PLA material is not yet available to the public, but the strong and flexible plastic is a perfectly good material for this stand and will appear smoother, with less obvious print lines and have a slightly satin texture)
