Product Description
This has been tested to work perfectly without modification right out of the box.  If you want one of these, you will need a screw to go with it (which will cost an extra $4)!  This cap should fit all SS64 Torx screws perfectly.  You can buy one from steelsticks64.com, use an existing screw that you already own, or you can get it from Tao via a DM on the TaoStyx64 discord.

This is the fabled "Metal Mario Cap" whose name was chosen by vote on the TaoStyx64 discord.  It is actually hollow inside to reduce the weight.

DM @ALinkToTao on discord to get a screw to go with your cap.  Tao has a special private listing for screws on his website that he will activate for you to buy a screw.

This cap is heavier than the carbon fiber grippy caps, and is in fact the heaviest known cap that is compatible with SS64 style joystick threads.  It weighs almost 4x more than a Bowser Grippy cap which is currently the lightest known N64 joystick cap.

This is a copy and paste of Tao's first impression of the "Metal Mario Cap":

I just played with it. It's not as bad as i expected from the weight i saw on the scale.

It definitely does feel heavier, but it's still playable. I played a smash match with it, and i noticed that it changes the way that i hold my thumb on the stick with the added weight. I have a tendency to let the stick flick back to the middle when playing with a lighter cap, but for some reason, this cap made my thumb want to stay on it, which changed my gameplay. I almost think it could be used to train the habit of keeping the thumb on the cap instead of letting it flick around. I found it very playable, and it could certainly be good for certain games.

The feel change of the stick was quite interesting. It's hard to describe, but i wouldn't call it unpleasant. As for grip, i would say that the top is not extremely grippy (like the carbon fiber caps), although it is more grippy than oem on top. The sides offer nice grip quite like a gravatos cap. Overall, my first impression was positive.

The question is this: would i recommend this for fast games like smash? Probably not. Would i recommend this for slower paced games? Yes i would. The weight change actually made me more conscientious of the positioning of the stick, and i could see how certain players might like this as a kind of haptic feedback for stick positioning. Would you recommend this for long hours of play? I really don't know.

One might jump to the conclusion that the extra weight on the cap might have a tendency to increase fatigue of thumb muscles, but i'm not sure if that's really an accurate assessment. One thing i notice is that the weight puts more strain on the spring and makes it tend to want to more easily go away from midline. The spring will still help the stick back to center.

The only way to know if this is good for long ours of play is to have someone test it and review it. I actually like the cap and think its beautiful. If i'm playing smash, i'm still going to be maining a gravatos cap. If i play paper mario, i'll be using the metal cap.
