28mm heroic scale brodie helmets

The Brodie helmet was designed by John Leopold Brodie and introduced in to the British army in 1915. At the start of World War I, no participating nation used steel helmets and most, including Britain, sent their soldiers to war in cloth, felt or leather headgear. Modern weaponry coupled with trench warfare saw saw the French introduce the steel Adrian Helmet, and the idea of steel headwear was copied worldwide. The Brodie helmet, or more accurately its successor the slightly-modified Mark 1, was one of the most widely-replicated steel helmets of the Great War. By 1916, the Brodie was the standard headgear for British soldiers of all ranks. An upgraded version, the Mk 1, was used from 1916 onwards, and by 1918 the US had also adopted the design. It remained the standard British helmet until it was supplanted by the similar Mark II in 1938, which was in turn replaced by the tutle-like MK III in 1944.
The helmet’s simple yet iconic design, coupled with the fact it was used by and against many world powers, meant that the Brodie also gained numerous nicknames, official designations and titles. These included the shrapnel helmet, battle bowler, Tommy helmet, tin hat, doughboy helmet, dishpan hat, tin pan hat, washbasin, battle bowler, Kelly helmet and salad bowl.
