Product Description
This is a sphere formed with 12 rings (6 sets of 2 parallel rings) arranged at the edges of the Archimedian solid, the rhombicosidodecahedron .  You get it by cutting off all of the vertices of a dodecahedron -or an icosahedron- at the midpoints of the edges, then doing the same again with the resulting solid. For those familiar with Zometool, this is the shape (using straight segments instead of rings, and a golden rectangle in lieu of the square faces) of the Zometool hub, and will allow one to make all of the Platonic solids with the correct struts between hubs. The circular strips are parallel to the 12 faces of a regular dodecahedron. It is printable in polished and colored plastic, and many metals.
