Product Description
These are a set of two (2) spear tacks based on a set associated with a winged spear found in London and currently held by the British Museum (Collection number 1856,0701.1449) dated between the 9th and 10th centuries AD. They are NOT a precise replica as no decent images were available - I had to work from a set of blurry and awkwardly angled images and a written description. They are still close enough.
To use them, simply break the join between the two points, pilot hole through the wood smaller than the shank of the tack (The shank is 3mm approx so 2-2.5mm is a good pilot hole to ensure the wood doesn't split) and hammer them in with a soft mallet (Hide, wood, rubber etc). Please ensure the correct safety equipment and precautions are taken when using these, I take no liability for people's silliness in the course of using my products!
The original was made from Copper Alloy (Probably a combination of Lead, Tin, Copper and Zinc in some form) and the example pictured is Shapeway's Polished Bronze, but I have made it available in a range of materials and finishes.
