Product Description
~ Male Kauri Cone pendant ~ 48mm tall (1.9 inches). This pendant is a stylised design inspired by a male Kauri cone from the famous New Zealand Kauri tree (Agathis australis) - an ancient species which grows to huge proportions & whose timber is prized for it's exquisite aesthetic grain patterning & rich golden honey colour. The female cone is larger, more spherical in shape & is usually bright green.
According to the great chief Wiki-Pedia "The timber is generally straight-grained and of fine quality with an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and rot resistance, making it ideal for yacht hull construction". (America's Cup billionaires prefer carbon fibre for it's superior strength-to-weight ratio). Apparently a considerable quantity of North Island Kauri was felled & shipped to San Fransisco to help rebuild the city after it's devastating earthquake & fire on Wednesday April 18th 1906 in which over 80% of the iconic Californian metropolis was destroyed & more than 3000 people perished.
The model was created using 'box' polygon-modeling techniques utilising 2D drawings or images only as reference.
