92-93 Honda Prelude Cupholder

This is a cup holder for a 92-93 Honda Prelude with the long center console. It replaces the coin holder just behind the emergency brake. The design of this cup holder was developed by laser scanning the stock coin holder. Once scanned, the measurements were verified and the cup holder ring was added to the model. The final product depicted in the images was printed using an ABS printer several years ago and was in my 92 Prelude in Chicago for that time. It had experienced drastic weather changes and direct sunlight. I have consulted with shapeways to determine that their Strong and Flexible plastic has the closest material properties to ABS and satisfies the needs of being an interior car part. Also shapeways has much cleaner prints. They did however note that UV light might fade white plastic over time and that is something to be aware of.

Installation:
To remove the existing coin holder lift/slide up on the passenger side and it should pop right out. Remove the metal retaining clips from the coin holder by sliding a small screw driver between the plastic and the center of the clip and wiggle them off. Once off slide the clips onto the identical tabs of the new cup holder in the same orientation as they were on the coin holder. This will allow the new cup holder to be installed exactly the same as the stock unit. Hook the driver’s side tabs onto the center console and press on the passenger side until you feel it click in. Do not push from the cup holder ring, press as close to the clip positions as possible. You might need to do some light sanding on the corners of the new cup holder to insure a snug and perfect fit. This is because these are over 20 year old cars and every center console has worn slightly differently. 

Once you do that you get to finally enjoy having a fully functional cup holder in your 4th gen Prelude without having to retrofit the center console out of a 5th gen or late 4th gen.
