Product Description
A few British Railways built Rectanks had a steel framework built onto their decks to carry flasks of nuclear fuel or waste. This model is therefore a logical extension to my existing Rectank model, though the designs for cradle and flask are based on limited photographic evidence and may be revised in future. The pins for retaining bogies are designed for the 5'6" Gloucester bogies supplied by the N-gauge society, and the best wheels for N-gauge are probably the Parkside Dundas 5.1mm diameter solid disc (drill 3 holes in each if you like). You will also need to add brake wheels to opposite corners as indicated by locations on the model.UPDATE. Remember the cradle Is dimensioned based on reckoning from a single photograph, and the flask is made up to fit the cradle as I only have photographs of larger flasks. If you have photos or drawings I would love to hear from you. Secondly, the print orientation being sideways, there's a "wax shadow" across the deck from one of the two signboards. This probably cleans up ok if you put the effort in, but I didn't bother on mine. Let me know if you would like to see this model redesigned with the boards as separate prieces to glue on.
NOTE: If you can't source the NGS Gloucester 5'6" wb bogies or the PD 5.1mm wheels, I have 3D models of both these things on Shapeways already. I can also load up multipacks and combi-packs to reduce cost if you tell me what you have in mind.
