Product Description
Designed as a replacemnt to the engine room doors and air intake vents on an Atlas H-15-44 to model the rebuilt-reengined Monon H-15-44. The Monon or Chicago Indinapolis & Louisville Railway purchased two Fairbaiks Morse H-15-44. Originally numbered 36 and 37 when built by F-M in 1947, they were renumbered to 45 and 46 in 1949 to make room for the growing numbers EMD BL-2. In an effort toward standardization, Monon’s two H-15-44 and single H-10-44 were rebuilt with EMD prime movers. In 1959 number 18, the H-10-44 received a 567 12-cylinder essentially making it an NW-2 of which 7 were already on the roster. While in 1960 both H-15-44 were given the same treatment receiving a 567 16-cylinder prime mover, the same that is in the dozens F3 and BL-2 locomotives already on the roster. All of this work was done in the railroad’s Lafayette, Indiana shops. Both 45 and 46 were scrapped in 1970. Major external changes in the rebuilding included lengthening the engine room doors, and relocating the air intake screens. These parts make the majority of the work in modeling an rebuilt H-15-44 simple.
