Chloroplast Pendant - Science Jewelry

This pendant illustrates the internal membrane structure of the plant chloroplast. Chloroplasts are the organelles where photosynthesis, the conversion of light energy to chemical energy and organic molecules, takes place. Chloroplasts have a high concentration of the important photosynthetic pigment, chlorophyll, and are responsible for the green color of plants. The organelles have a distinctive membranal organization consisting of thylakoid membranes arranged in stacks called 'grana.'
