1/700 Scorpion Class Ironclad

Originally ordered by the Confederate States Navy, CSS North Carolina and CSS Mississippi were two sister ships built in British yards, but seized by the Royal Navy towards the end of the American Civil War, before being completed. The vessels were renamed HMS Scorpion and HMS Wyvern, respectively, and they served for a very long time as coastal defence vessels, almost 70 years, finally being scrapped in 1922.
The armament had not yet been specified at the time they were seized, but the two ironclads in RN service were quite powerful for the time: not only sported very thick armour (up to 10in on the turrets and 2-4.5in of belt), but were equipped with four massive 9in muzzle-loaders, following the turret design of Captain Coles of the RN. A couple of horizontal, direct-acting, triple expansion steam engines were connected to a single propeller, giving a top speed of 10.5kn with the aid of sail power.
