Product Description
Part of a series of kitbashes made using Discovery parts, some inspired by other designs.
The Takao class heavy cruisers were a series of ships built for the United Federation of Planets in the 2270s-80s; they were a more militarized version of the Constitution class for patrol and defense border missions, and were built as a consequence to the growing tensions between the Federation, the Klingon and the Romulan Star Empires. They were kept in service for more than 40 years thanks to refits, and they had this exceptionally long life because, even though Starfleet felt these ships were needed to defend the Federation, they didn't want to build new classes of what were considered warships for fear of the fact that this would be seen as an act of distrust against the Klingons and the Romulans, with which the Federations was having an unusually long and quiet period of co-existence. In the end the vessels were retired in the 2320s due to the physical space limits in the frames for upgrades.
Ships of the class were: USS Takao; USS Atago; USS Maya; USS Chokai; USS Amagi; USS Ashitaka; USS Agano; USS Aoba; USS Ashigara; USS Myoko; USS Nachi; USS Haguro.
