Product Description
A number of Great Western tank locomotives were fitted with these Spark Arresters to enable them to be used in areas where sparks from their chimnies would have been hazardous, such as in Munitions Depots. Although these seemed to conform to a basic pattern there were variations in size particularly the slope of the tapered sides.
This print is based on photos of those fitted to 57XX pannier numbers 4601 and , 5744. These locos were so fitted to enable them to shunt in the WD Sidings at Milton near Didcot, which was then in Berkshire.
Similar but slightly different shaped devices were also fitted to BR(W) 16XX, 1661.
This model is designed to simply drop over the the chimney of a Bachmann 57XX without any modification to the locomotive. The two lugs at the base of the arrester should be on the sides of the chimney.
This item will also fit the old Hornby-Triang 57XX pannier (8751) without alteration. If you wish to fit this to the newer Hornby open cab pannire the original chimney would need to be shortened alternatively you may wish to consider my "Spark Arrestor for Hornby GWR 2721" available elsewhere on this site.
