Product Description
These parts model the 18" long queen posts used on CPR double sheathed boxcars of the 195000-197999 series boxcars rebuilt by the CPR including cars rebuilt in 1925.
I took photos and field measurements from two preserved cars – on in Winnipeg, the other north of Edmonton. To make them comply with Shapeways rules, they are bulked up some, so not true prototypical thicknesses.
The 195000-197999 series boxcars were rebuilt from earlier cars, and were double sheathed, with steel reinforced frame and Murphy 6/7 inverted corrugation ends (sold separately).
The parts includes the 8 queenposts needed to assemble the car. They are printed as pairs, already mounted – like the prototype - on a piece of approx. 2 x 4s wood. On the prototype this 2x4 was mounted on steel channel cross beams, with two queen posts on each side of the car’s steel centre sill.
Due to the delicate nature of the frosted detail plastic, the notch where the truss rod passes below the queen post is filled in on the printed version of the part. It needs to be re-grooved with a gentle pass (or two or three) from a razor saw.
