PS Vita 1000 to HORI Grip Convert Kit R2&L2

Introduction of the Hori Grip x PS Vita 1000 Mod

The Hori Grip was one of best cases made for the PS Vita for PS4/PS3 remote play to fully utilize the R2/L2 and R3/L3 buttons to work flawlessly with the games.

Unfortunately the Hori Grip was only available for the PS 2000 slim models. Its a shame the there wasn't a grip version made for the original 1000 model to take full advantage of the OLED screen while playing high quality PS4 games - its simply too thick to fit.

Our Solution

As a passion project I decided to modify the Hori Grip in order to cater using the PSV 1000 model to take advantage of the missing buttons and the results were amazing. Small modifications to the case will be required however, once completed, the convertor kit will replace current parts in order to latch onto the PS Vita 1000 snugly just like the original.

What do I need to do?

The bottom hooks on the bottom of the hori grip will need to be modified carefully either with a svaplel knife or highly recommended with a dremel. The locking tab on the top will need to removed also. See pics provided on where to dremel.
 
Once modified you can replace the top locking tab and using the newly designed tabs at the bottom which snaps into place to hold the Vita device. We recommended to use a dab a Super-Glue or Gorilla glue to keep it in place.  

The top tabs provide will directly replace the original and snap into place perfectly.

Once installed the PS Vita 1000 will be locked nicely into place with all back buttons functioning perfectly for gameplay and feel like a Dualshock4 controller! You can now enjoy argubly the best setup for a PS vita 1000 for remote play finally!

4 - The converter kit is made from ultra strong polymer using SLS printers (100x time more advanced compared to desktop printers - you will not know its 3D printed and is near impossible to snap or break.)

2. Dremel or Scalpel

FAQ.

1. How diffiuclt it is to do and how long would it take?
Just take your time, it takes around 25-30 mins to do. Difficulty is 1/5. Very easy and straight forward.

2. Are there any other easier drop in solutions?
Yes. There are other options available to use the R2/L2 buttons already installed into the grip. The R3/L3 grip however normally needs to be purchased serperately and needs to be stuck onto the back of the Vita device permanetly. We dont like the idea of permanently sticking buttons and would prefer if we can easily take the PS1000 out from the case at anytime. This solution is perfect for us.

3.Can the PSV2000 slim be used on the case after this modification?
Yes however you will need to foam with a sticky back to stick onto the underside of the bottom locking tabs.

4. What if i screw up?
There is a risk, so please take it slow and follow the instructions. Contact me if you need any help or assistance.

5. I currently don't have the HORI grip, where can I get one?
It is near impossible to purchase it first hand now as manufacturing has stopped. The best places are Amazon or Ebay to get a pre-owned one. There may be cheaper ones with the top tab that is lost or broken, however this kit will replace those parts.
