In Norse mythology, Odin is sometimes called the Raven God because of his strong connection to ravens. He gave two ravens named Huginn and Muninn incredible abilities, including the power of speech. Every morning he sent them flying out into the world, and each evening they returned and told him of the many things they'd seen and heard. 

Odin's ravens are also believed to symbolize the Shaman's Journey through the cosmos by way of "fylgja" (shape-shifting, good fortune, and the guardian spirit) and "hamingja" (the shape-shifting, ghostly double of a person).
