Product Description
Designed by George Stephenson, Locomotion No. 1 remains an icon of the early railways. Hauling the inaugural train on the Stockton & Darlington Railway of 1825 – the first public railway – it was a notable advance in locomotive design, notably through the use of coupling rods linking the wheels. The original engine is now on display at Darlington while a replica exists at Beamish museum. This model originated as a jumbo-ised N Gauge engine, suitably altered to 00 operative tolerances and to fit proprietary parts.
Combined with the 00 scale Locomotion loco and component pack (each separately available), this scratch aid enables an unpowered free-rolling model engine that can be ‘motorised’ by coupling to a power source such as: https://www.shapeways.com/product/F9H5PPBEC/00-scale-open-truck-motorised
(Note: various materials are provided, however, WNV and BNV will require more preparation for smooth painting that FUD and FED.)
The following additional parts need to be sourced separately to complete (web links given as examples only):
Screw-fit coupling (best to just glue/pin – mounting point included on the tender): Hornby Spares - Coupling Unit and Screws - A1X Terrier - Pack of 1
