Product Description
Inspired by stunning photos of deep space, this pendant represents the Optical Telescope Element of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). Launched on Christmas Day 2021, the JWST has been collecting infrared images of space since July 2022. Because of its high resolution and sensitivity, it is capable of viewing images at greater clarity than the Hubble telescope. The primary mirror consists of hexagonal gold-beryllium coated reflectors, giving this telescope its signature honeycomb design. The Webb is a three mirror anistigmat telescope consisting of a primary mirror, secondary mirror, and tertiary mirror to minimize optical aberrations. This pendant depicts all three mirrors.
The diameter of the honeycombed primary mirror part of the pendant is 17 mm (0.7 inches) and the secondary mirror is placed 13 mm (0.5 inches) above the surface of the primary mirror.
Pendant does not ship from Shapeways with a chain. If you would like to purchase a chain along with this pendant, please click on the "ADD A CHAIN" button below the material dropdown. The bail loop for attaching a chain has internal dimensions of 3 mm x 5 mm and will fit all chains offered by Shapeways.
