During my residency at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD), I created a 3d scan of my hand with a Microsoft Kinect Scanner connected to a PC. After the scan was taken, I cleaned it up (and added a missing finger) in Autodesk Meshmixer. I then brought the STL file into Autodesk 123D Design, and added a back for the pin to attach to.
This version of the high five lapel pin includes the pin for you to attach it firmly to your favorite blazer or shirt. The hand and pin are printed securely together in one piece.
This project is mostly of personal significance. In June 2013, my left hand (the one scanned) was broken in a bike accident. After a full year, I've undergone 7 surgeries and over 30 physical therapy sessions to regain full use of the hand. This pin was created as a thank you gift for all of the friends and family that have been supportive along the way.
