The Dharma Chakra, an eight-spoked wheel, is one of the most ancient religious symbols of the world. It is used by Hindus, Buddhists and Jains. Get it here as pendant in the size, material and finish of your choice.
Spiritually the Dharma Chakra or "wheel of the law" represents light, knowledge, insight, the universal moral law, Buddhas teachings and the noble eightfold path.
In the Bhagavadgita, the song of God, Arjuna is in deep moral despair in his war chariot in the center of the battle field but the god Vishnu, personified by his charioteer Krishna, teaches him to find the right way.
The wheel with wooden compression spokes was invented in central Eurasia for war chariots in the Bronze Age about 2500 B.C. It remained in widespread use largely unchanged for about 4500 years since then. During industrialization it was gradually displaced by the wire wheel with tensioned spokes made of steel.
This piece of jewelry celebrates the amazing ancient craft of wheelwrighting as well as the rich and deep spiritual traditions of India. The larger designs in brass, bronze and silver show further details of the construction of a wheel. These are found in grooves on the rear side of the felloe.
