Designed by Eva Tucek – Vienna, Austria, for Design Museum's Rapid Jewelry Competition.
From the designer: " The origination point was rooted in using a hyperbolic surface and drawing a shape and concept out of a natural form like Coral. It is very difficult to mimic the growth of such a structure by hand. After researching some processing codes and projects done with this mathematic principal, the next question was ‘what’ ?
This brought us to the Tudor Ruff. The Ruff is playing with a similar structure and was long used as a form of adornment. It also symbolised status and took on the form of display almost like that of a peacocks tail.
The form is playful and at some points the fabric folds resembled a form of origami in a way, which lead to a rich assortment of types worn in this day and age.
So we decided to reinterpret the topic in a 21st Century style, and by using the element of coding and algorithms we are able to explore various origami patterns and apply them to the surface of our new found ‘Origami Ruff'."
