Product Description
The geometry of these pieces are based an icosahedron nested perfectly within a dodecahedron.
The properties of the so-called Platonic solids have been known since Neolithic times and possess inherent Golden Ratio dimensions. The 'nesting' of these solids was explored as a means of predicting the orbits of planets by the astronomer Johannes Kepler.
In ancient and medieval philosophy, the icosahedron was seen as symbolizing the element of water, while the dodecahedron symbolized the æther, or fifth and highest element representing spirit and phenomena such as lightning. It is from this that the word "quintessence" originates.
