This is an HO Scale model of the articulated 5000 series, later 51-54 series, cars built for the CRT/CTA in 1947 by the St. Louis Car Company and Pullman Car Company. These cars were assigned to various portions of the rapid transit system until they found their permanent home on the Skokie Swift in 1964. These cars aquired the nicknames Jitterbug or Doodlebug due to its articulated design.
This version of the car is how they appeared after assignment to the Skokie Swift in 1964 unitl they were retired from the CTA in 1985. It features the large roof boards on the both A cars to accomodate the pan trolleys used in Swift service as well as the latch and catcher motor.
Also available in my shop are the trucks for the whole car as well as the underbody and frame.
