Tromino Developing Fractal Gasket

This sculpture is based on a fractal gasket derived from a self-replicating tile. The "L" tromino (a shape made up of three squares) can be tiled with four smaller copies of itself. One is removed, and the resulting polygon is substituted for each of the remaining three trominoes. This process is iterated to generate a fractal. The base of the model is the starting tromino, and the first seven iterations are stacked on top of it. Ramps between generations are added to create smooth transitions between them. Three of these models could be fit together to add a generation to the fractal (or nine to add two generations, ...).
