Product Description
This model represents the Illinois Terminal Railroad (Illinois Traction System) freight motors that were numbered in the 1063-1067 series. They were built in 1910 by McGuire-Cummings. These cars were built for express service and pulling the longer passenger/sleeper trains. These four cars were modified to fit the times. They were all de-motorized in the mid-'30s and used for express freight (as the old freight trailers were scrapped). During WWII, 1066 was converted to passenger service (with longitudinal rows of bench seats) for ordnance plant use, converted back to express service after the war. The body of 1065 became the Madison Yard office in 1947. The others were wrecked, scrapped, or used in MOW service. They had a long life on the IT, extending from the Brewster green era up to the tangerine orange in the early 1950s. Appropriate decals are readily available from RCW.
This model is only the shell. I also have the underbody frame and the Curtis truck side frames for sale in my shop. Several items will be needed to finish this such as trolley poles, wire for grab irons, the Bowser motor mechanism, etc.
