The CL-class was originally conceived for the use of Schutzstaffeln
(Protection Flights) as light, maneuverable two-seat aircraft to protect vulnerable C-class observation planes. The Halberstadt CL.II
excelled at that duty, but it was also found to be successful used on its own on ground attack and close-support missions, and such groups were re-designated Schlactstaffeln
The CL.II's communal cockpit improved communication between the pilot and gunner, and the compact construction gave the CL.II a nimble grace. The type was later improved in the Halberstadt CL.IV.
At 1:144, this model represents a early-model CL.II with a narrow rudder and the fixed gun on the left side of the engine. There is also a late-model version
available. At 1:285/6mm/1:288, two aeroplanes are included, one early model and one late, connected by disposable links.
