Product Description
Brake assemblies for wagons of 12ft wheelbase: enough parts for either four or eight wagons, depending on whether the wagons have brakes on one or both sides. Each assembly comprises two brake shoes, brake hangers, push-rods and tumbler. Purchaser must supply V-hangers, brake shaft and brake lever separately. The brake assemblies are compatible with the wagon baseplates sold elsewhere in this shop.
Unlike typical plastic mouldings and whitemetal castings, the two plates of the hangers and push rods are reresented separately, with visible space between each pair. The assemblies are detailed on both sides, so are reversible to represent both either-side, independent brakes or Morton brakes.
The brake shoes and tumblers are scaled from RCH drawings and specified dimensions. The shoes are "reversible", meaning that they have an eye to engage the brake hanger at both ends and (the full-size shoes) can be reversed to even out wear. This is the later convention; early equipment tended to have non-reversible shoes.
The bases of the assemblies have grooves to engage pegs on the baseplates that are sold elsewhere in this shop. This self-jigging approach makes it easier to fits the brakes without them dragging on the wheels of the model.
