Kevlar is a high strength polymer that was designed by DuPont in 1965. Typically it is spun into ropes or fabric sheets that can be used in composites. It is generally used for reinforcement due to its very high strength to weight ratio which is 5 times higher than steel. It is commonly known for its usage in bulletproof vests. Its high strength comes from the hydrogen bonds that exist between the chains which are symbolized in the model by the zig-zag bonds.
