Product Description
This product is withdrawn for redesign as is it now known to be inaccurate. Mr. Lines has pointed out that the LCDR wagon buffers had three ribs, not four (the LCDR coaches did have 4-ribbed buffer-guides). I will try to have the corrected buffer-guides, and possibly the 4-ribbed coach version, in the shop as soon as correct details and dimensions have been established.Guides for sprung buffers, modelled on the buffers fitted by the LCDR to unfitted stock. The guides have 4 ribs (c.f. 3 ribs on SER and most SECR buffers). They should be mounted with two ribs vertical and two horizontal. The full-size buffers were spaced out from the wagon headstocks by wooden pads and the pads are simulated in the printed part. The buffing face was 18 inches from the headstock with the rams fully extended. The buffer heads were 12 inches in diameter.Dimensions were scaled from a 7mm-scale drawing by G.G. Lines, published in Invicta. The appearance was checked against the photograph of a LCDR van in An Illustrated History of Southern Wagons, vol. 3, p.54.Turned heads/rams and springs from MJT or Alan Gibson are needed to complete these buffers. Alternatively, the buffers may be finished unsprung using turned heads from, e.g., Wizard Models.
