  1. Nasa recently posted 3d models of many of their satellite and spacecraft.

I would love to make a model of the SLS block 1a rocket, but it comes as a .max file format, and I don't know the scaling.

I don't know much about 3D modeling or how to convert this model into something I can submit to Shapeways for printing.
Is there anybody that can help?

    Thank you,
    Greg

Good question, its great that NASA is offering these files for free but .Max files are hard to work with because they are only useful in 3Ds Max.

You'll need to download the 30 day trial of it http://www.autodesk.com/products/3ds-max/overview , import and then export as STL or obj.

I just wanted to say thanks for announcing this news on the forums here. I love NASA, but it's no JAXA!

Really cool that NASA is offering those models on its website. I hope someone can help you with the conversion to an STL file. I personally don't use 3ds Max.

I have 3DS (I'm glad I kept in on even though I don't use it). I'll shoot you a pm.
