Discussion in '3D Design Requests' started by 519328_deleted, Feb 22, 2016.

  1. Hi, I am a jewlery designer. I want to 3D print my interlocking link bracelets. Is this possible? Can I print it in metal? silver? I Would like to work with someone who knows how to do this and has had experience. Thank you

    Hey There,

You most definitely can. I just designed and printed a pendant and ring I designed in Zbrush. The ring was printed in raw bronze and the pendant in polished silver. Have you created it in 3D or are you sculpting a wax mold. I was a 3D artist who went the opposite way around. I believe you would have to print each link separately. You just have to make sure that there are no parts thinner than .031" thick. I'm by no means an expert but I can answer any questions I learned the answers to through trial and error.

    Cheers

    Chris

Shapeways are running an interlocking metal pilot.
If you join this pilot you can print raw or polished silver pieces (or brass) with up to 6 interlocking parts.
The design guidelines are in the linked page, although as it's a pilot they're subject to change.

  5. From a nubee. The link seems to be broken. My question is: Does the limitation on parts mean 6 unique parts or six total parts, duplicative or not? Thanks, Bob

Ragnes, you can use this forum post by a Shapeways employee concerning interlocking metals.

It looks like the maximum number of individual parts you can have in one interlocking part is 6. It doesn't matter whether they are unique or repeating.
