In 2007, Lily Su enrolled in the Sculpture program at Rhode Island School of Design, where she graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in 2011. There she earned an extensive repertoire of wood and metal fabrication, complex casting, and contemporary sculpture theory. Her chief interests has been clay modeling and computer modeling. Accordingly, she has studied under Jeff Hesser and Alba Corrado for figure sculpture. She has in her work been concerned with the matters in which we have no control over. Her inspiration stems from the dysfunctional existential abyss of human-made political systems, traumatic devastation, and hopelessness. She has attempted to explore the dichotomy simultaneously of the absurdity and sadness generated by nature's events via the use of figurative imagery juxtaposed with dysfunctional environments. She finds life a sensual experience in which she strives to create expression through the energy of frustration.
"I seek to create uneasiness. We are in an era flooded with objects, objects of use, comfort, sophistication, flamboyancy... There are many objects that serve immediate comfort, yet few are made to be a companion to our recurring feelings of uneasiness."
