Product Description
Fixed (ie: not adjustable) Quad Cannons for the Bandai 1:144 Falcon model kit

The Falcon's guns, or quad cannons in nerd parlance, are a real continuity problem for the model maker. The cannons from the models, interior sets, exterior sets, matte paintings and CGI models all look totally different.

The Bandai ones are so-so, but definitely don't look exactly like the ANH model ones, which are more boxy in shape. So I've made replacements for Bandai's 1:144 Falcon; closely modelled after the ones seen on the original 5 footer ANH model.

These printed models are are reasonably close to the movie prototype, but with a lot of obvious compromises for size. Everything is a bit thicker, and the enlarged tips of the cannons are joined by three thin plates of plastic. Without this bracing the cannons will warp after printing. You can carefully file the joiner plates out if you want, but of course you run the risk of breaking things. Don't use a knife or sprue cutter to remove it, as the plastic may shatter.

To repeat, these printed cannons are really really delicate. If your Falcon is going to be handled at all I'd leave the existing cannons in place. Styrene, even the fairly stiff formulation that Bandai uses, is slightly flexible and gives just a bit when bent. But 3D printed acrylic will simply snap.

These cannons are printed as a single component consisting of both the yoke and the cannon. They thus are in a fixed position and cannot be adjusted, but save you the trouble of engineering a joining rod. If you'd prefer an adjustable two-part cannon I also have made models of that.

I have included three cannons to allow for possible breakage. Because of Shapeways' setup fees, the price increase from two cannons is minor.

Please read the following if you're interested in these items.

These accurizing parts are not mass-market commercial products. I made them for my own use, and have put them here in case they're of interest to someone else. Possibly you, since you’re reading this.

These are components for the serious model maker who wants to build a more accurate miniature. They require a lot of fiddling and careful installation. If you don't want to trim, file, sand, and glue, then these aren't the parts you're looking for!

The parts are tiny, and easily broken. They push the limits of today's 3D printers. The detail in the digital previews is all there, but it won't always be visible at the miniscule sizes that this scale requires!
